Lesley Schmitz, D.O. | Board Certified

Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine

Doc Lesley was born in England, grew up in Staten Island, NY and married in New Jersey where she and her husband Steve had three children.  They moved to Texas in 1991.  It was here that she finally realized a lifelong goal of becoming a physician, primarily when she found out about osteopathic medicine.

With a Physical Medicine mindset, she completed her residency in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine through Plaza Medical Center after graduating from UNTHSC- Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine.

She taught medical students while in residency and for six additional years at TCOM. She is currently Adjunct Faculty but will teach anyone that stands still long enough!

With a focus on nutrition since a science fair project in 8th grade and a father that made her awful but healthy "drinks", she puts a strong focus on healthy food and supplements as may be needed.

As an avid athlete through high school and now an occassional weekend warrior,  she understands how an athlete thinks differently, and what demands we sometimes ask of our mind and body.

"Gait is posture in motion" & "It isn't about symmetry but about potential for movement and function" are two phrases that you are apt to hear her say.

Constantly combing the medical literature, including physical and manual therapies, she has taken courses with sports trainers to physical therapists.

Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and healthy aging are two of her current areas of additional interest.
